A Thrilling Mystery for First-year Spanish Students!
When American high school student Michael O’Mara goes to Mérida for a semester to live with a Mexican family to improve his Spanish, he gets a lesson in archaeology and criminology when, by coincidence, he encounters the notorious bandits Paco “el peligroso”, Juan Carlos “el cojo”, Fernando “el feroz” and Nico “la nariz” after they have robbed the Museo de Arqueología of precious Mayan artifacts. Hot on their trail, Michael and his “adopted” brother Luis and sister Emilia unknowingly follow the bandits through the Yucatan sites of Chichén Itzá and Balancanché to Tulum, and ultimately reveal the secret location of the artifacts to the police in an unusual Mayan site.
A mystery thriller in 10 episodes, El Secreto del Cenote is presented in the present tense for Level I and Level II students. The locations are culturally authentic throughout. Each episode includes comprehension questions, supplementary activities, puzzles, an Art Part, an internet research activity and a Critical Thinking Reflection for teachers to use as complementary materials.
El Secreto del Cenote is aligned with Voces® Level 1 eTextbook. A great mystery for high school students learning present tense Spanish.
