I love giving my students a little something on their birthdays. It has become quite popular in my classroom. I even have alumni come back and visit and ask for their birthday pencil!!

Whenever a student has a birthday in my class, or a half birthday for summer birthdays, we sing "Joyeux Anniversaire" to them. (Except the students who have religious reasons not to participate.) Then I have the student stand up and everyone says, "Joyeux Anniversaire, _________, " and I hand them a pencil. They love it! It's a great way to recognize each individual student and make them feel special!
