„Damals waren es die Juden... Heute sind es dort die Schwarzen, hier die Studenten... Morgen werden es vielleicht die Weißen, die Christen oder die Beamten sein... “. As you read the classic story of Damals War es Friedrich in your class, this poster makes a great reference. Use this poster to illustrate the symbolism, characters, and themes to your students as you all read the book together.

Teachers can incorporate an authentic novel into the curriculum by choosing a noteworthy section, discussing symbolism within the novel, and describing the significance of the novel itself.
If you discuss each chapter, have students use poster board and markers to create their own marquee posters for this book, but with the individual chapter’s contents as the theme for each. Once all the posters are done, have students retell the story as they use drawings on their posters to recount, in order, what happened.
