Celebrate Frida Kahlo's Life and Works!
"I am a Spanish teacher with more than 10 years in the classroom. I have the utmost respect and admiration for Frida Kahlo’s work and all she had to overcome. When I wanted the class to learn about her or to start a unit on artists, I discussed her life, in first person, personifying her. It was emotional and rather dramatic, but due to the detail in the presentation, the students could feel how she felt and learned about her life. Because this was such a change from my daily routine and because she is so fascinating, you could hear a pin drop the entire time. Even though I stayed completely in Spanish in this presentation while teaching even level two, the students understood everything I said, because of my gestures and emotions, in addition to the visual support in the presentation.
When I asked my students at the end of the year about their favorite lesson, hands down it was Frida Kahlo."
