Learning a Language: Show the Purpose and the Path

Do students have any idea what it takes to get to fluency? Have they considered more than one or two of the benefits of learning another language? Hang these posters (or giant banners!) in the hall and use them to recruit students to your program, or put them up for parents' night... they may even give your administrators some food for thought about how language learning works, the value of it, and the expectations that often surround it!

Why to learn a new language was a little disappointing to me as I want students to take not just the minimum 3 years required by our school, but levels 4 & 5 which I teach. It makes it sound as though a mere 3 years will impress colleges, which is NOT the recruiting tool I was looking for. This will work in a school with the bare minimum, just not mine. For this reason, I will NOT be posting this poster. Shame! I will post the poster on How to Learn a Language.
