A: Hello Jenny,
Q. Which is better to start as a New Teacher, big book of CI or the Natural Approach?
A. The Big CI Book (1B4886) explains many different strategies for the delivery of CI that are not limited to stories (check out the table of contents sample pages on our web site to view the list), and a Natural Approach to Stories (1B5933) goes into detail on Ben Slavic's method for storytelling: nontargeted, with high-frequency words emerging naturally, following a particular questioning sequence to create and develop characters and stories. Either could be used by a new teacher, but The Big CI Book is broader, while A Natural Approach to Stories goes in-depth with a particular system for storytelling - which to choose would depend on where your strongest interest lies.
Q. Also, if I get the Natural Approach does it matter French/Spanish book link if I teach Spanish?
A. There is only one version of the book so it doesn't matter which link. The book has some examples in French but they are comprehensible even for non-French speakers.

A: Hello Marie,
It could be adapted to work for any language.
Q:I am teaching level 1 over 2 years in a middle school after 15 yrs of textbook block schedule. Do you think the 6 week cycle of lessons will work well for this 2 year level one class? I have been integrating lots of CI in my previous years but now have the freedom to do so much more.

A: Hello Julie,
The plan laid out in Year One is very flexible. It advocates staying with the same activity as long as it is working and the kids are engaged, and activities start simple and gradually build/change to maintain engagement. Without the forced pace of the textbook, you can build naturally so the format of your schedule becomes less critical. It should work for most schedules. If you have more in-depth questions on the matter, feel free to drop a line directly to the authors: tinahargaden@gmail.com or benslavic@yahoo.com They're happy to hear from you! Thank you for your question.
